When a Poem Saves Your Life

I'm feeling sexual today

My legs craving for a touch,

and my lips looking for a kiss that would

leave me burning.

I'm tempted to grab my phone and send a

text

Sure that, if I want to, I'll find a kind man

who's willing to caress my body.

But something inside me stops me before I

press send

It's an intuitive feeling that's telling me to go

inward,

to lean into my passion.

And what a difficult thing to do

Used as I am to give away my energy to

others

So instead of looking for a pair of hands to

hold my body

I take my pen and let my arousal transform

into poems

Excitement pouring through my body while

my fingers hold the pen tightly as if it was a

man.

What a wonderful feeling

Being a woman I grew up with the idea that

my fire was meant to feed others

Fuck others...

Sitting here, with my notebook between my

legs

I feel whole for the first time

Standing in my own fire

Honoring my passion

Enjoying my femininity

Understanding that the next man who comes

will be lucky to try my fire. Mine and only.

Realizing that the power of my passion can

light up worlds. Light up galaxies

And that there's nothing more exciting than

myself.

So next time I let a man's hands hold me

I will be more than just a body

I will be sacred.

‘Cause I don't need a man to fuck me

When I can make love to myself.

Melissa Rodríguez is a Mexican woman who has always found writing powerful and nourishing.
